Shirodhara

Shirodhara is an Ayurvedic treatment for the mind that involves pouring a thick stream of warm herbalized oil over the forehead to deeply calm the central nervous system. The word "shiro" means head and the word "dhara" means to pour a stream of oil.

In the Shirodhara treatment a continuous stream of oil is applied in a wave-like motion to the forehead using a pot suspended directly above the head. The recipient is induced into a meditative state by the swaying motion of the oil stream. The oil is absorbed through the hair follicles into the tissues surrounding the brain affecting the Central Nervous System. It effectively alleviates stress which is the main factor in many diseases.

Both the flow of the oil and the temperature remain constant throughout the treatment which lasts about 30-45 minutes.
